George Djorgovski

    S. George Djorgovski is a Professor and Executive Officer (Dept. Chair) for Astronomy, and the Founding Director of the Center for Data-Driven Discovery at Caltech. He is an author or coauthor of several hundred research papers, and a recipient of a number of professional awards and distinctions, including: Presidential Young Investigator, Alfred P. Sloan Fellow, and Fellow of the AAAS. The asteroid 24421 Djorgovski is named in his honor. He was one of the founders of the Virtual Observatory framework, and the rapidly expanding discipline of Astroinformatics. His main interests are in the arena of an emerging scientific methodology in the era of data-intensive and computationally enabled science and scholarship, including the methodology sharing and transfer between different domains.
